I Love Web Games
Core Beliefs
No Music. Music can enhance the experience in AAA games, but in web games, it’s often more distracting than immersive. I always mute the music when I play. Instead, I prefer to listen to a podcast or YouTube in the background. If you're looking for something to listen to, I’m happy to share my playlist.
No Hand-Holding. The most frustrating trend in modern games (especially mobile) is that you can't do what you want, you have to go through multiple steps of the tutorial and in some cases the tutorial has a wall of text. If you can't understand how to play the game just by clicking around, it's bad game design.
2D and 2.5D games only. Not every game needs 3D and if we are talking about web games, most of them don't.
My Story
When I was finishing school, my parents bought me my first computer. It wasn’t meant for gaming—it was meant for schoolwork—so I couldn’t run most modern games. Instead, I dove into the world of Flash games. And I played a lot.
Years later, I bought my own computer with my first salary. Most people would go for a high-end gaming rig—but not me. I chose another work computer and kept playing Flash games.
BTW, the first thing I tried on my very first PC? Making a game. I didn't know anything about programming, so it didn't go well. Over the years, multiple times I applied to multiple game studios for a job - no luck. So now I am making my own games.
Do I Use AI?
I use AI like a manual—when I get stuck, I ask for help with specific code problems. I don’t let AI make full games for me. As for art, I don’t use AI-generated visuals because I haven’t seen results that make me happy.
Vision
Come for the games. Stay for the community.
The Flash age ended a long time ago. Everybody moved to mobile. There are not as many web games as there used to be and truly good ones are even harder to find. But I still love them, and I hope I’m not the only one. So, come share this passion with me.
